Annabelle is an insurance industry professional with more than 17 years of experience, mainly in the public policy, consumer affairs and regulatory affairs disciplines.
Annabelle is currently responsible for Suncorp’s Financial Inclusion Action Plan across the Suncorp Group and the day to day running of Essentials by AAI, Australia’s first “micro-insurer”.
A lawyer by background Annabelle spent many years heading up the Public Policy and Stakeholder Management area for General Insurance. As part of this role Annabelle was responsible for consumer affairs. Over time, as the cost of insurance continued to rise, Annabelle became more and more concerned that larger parts of the community were finding it difficult to access. This was particularly clear after large weather events, where non insurance rates were high.
A passionate believer in the concept of insurance models being used to share risk across the community, the widening equity gap was of deep concern. This concern was shared by the Suncorp Group and in August 2014 Annabelle began the process to create a socially inclusive insurance brand, using micro-insurance principles. Annabelle is deeply proud of the work that was done by many and hopes that a growing social issue can now start to be resolved.
Annabelle also is an active member of the Australian Centre of Financial Studies Advisory Board and is the Chair of the Insurance Research Reference Group.
Annabelle is an advocate for evidence based policy development that enables systems of risk transfer to work efficiently across the economy whilst maintaining the ability to identify and mitigate risk by other means
